Film Friday: Nevis Swing

New Zealand is home to many adrenaline sports, and Queenstown is the place to do them. We managed to try a couple whilst we were in the country, none were as weird or wonderful as the Nevis Swing. Apparently this is the World’s biggest swing, granted I am not sure when swings started to be measured but this one definitely seemed big. You have to take a windy bus journey up to a valley that is also home to the Nevis bungee, I enjoyed that experience on my last visit and was determined to make Pinion do something similar. Unfortunately she chose the one option that allowed her to be attached to me. We opted to swing backwards and upside down, clearly we were the first ones off our bus to go and the only ones to choose anything other than a more normal sitting position. Our grimacing must have put people off!

The walk out to the swing:

Here are the swing stats (straight from AJ Hackett’s website):

  • The World’s Biggest Swing
  • 300metre Arc
  • 120m rope length (That’s longer than a rugby field!)
  • 160m above the river
  • Swing options: Forwards, Backwards, Tandem, truck’n trailer, 69, back2back, Honeymoon & much more.

Labelling us just in case:

I wouldn’t recommend upside down and backwards as the best position, it really hurt my eyes! Other than this it was great fun and was easier to handle when you’re attached to someone you love/hate ;-). Hope you enjoy the film, i’ve muted out our screaming cause it was pretty embarrassing but you can still enjoy us struggling to get into position.

Yikes! Not sure if I would be able to do this. I’m fine with high places as long as I can rely on my own feet and arms, but when it’s just ropes (or anything other, really), just nope!

We didn’t really know what we were getting in to, we just booked it cause we could do it together. Can’t lie, my legs were definitely a bit wobbly before and after this one!
